Fair Trade

We have been learning about Fair Trade and what it means. Our doodlebugs made with Fair Trade chocolate from the Kuapa Kokoo co-operative in Ghana were yummy.

PaPaPaa

PaPaPaa means, 'The best of the best.' School children in Ghana have been teaching us about their lives there. We have learned about the food they eat and the kind of music that they enjoy.

Different types of foods

We sorted pictures of different types of foods into groups.

Its important to eat something from the different food groups to stay healthy.

Our school dinners

This term our topic is food.
We will be finding out about where our food comes from and learning about fair trade and food miles.
Everyday we have lunch in the dinner hall.
The cooks come in early to start cooking our lunch.
At lunchtime we line up and they serve the food.

That looks like sausage beans and mash!

Some people have a sandwich or a baked potato and fillings.

They can help themselves.

We sit together at the tables.
We can choose milk or juice to drink.

Some people like to have packed lunches.
What is in this lunch box today?

What do you have for lunch at school?

Fair Trade Focus

View Ghana in a larger map

Here is a map of Ghana, a country in Africa where Fair Trade is making a big difference to the lives of cocoa producers and their families. We will be finding out more about fair trade food this term and will be watching a webcast from Ghana made by the Kuapa Kids. We may even have to taste the chocolate which is made from the Kuapa KoKoo beans!
